As President of Curtiss-Wright Controls since 1998, Mr. Yohrling led the diversification of the company's strategic focus beyond its legacy flight systems operations to include embedded computing and integrated sensing products, as well as expanded end-markets to include land-based defense, naval and industrial applications. The significant diversification in products and markets was pursued with a deliberate focus on maintaining the company's reputation for technical innovation, superior product quality and customer satisfaction. Under Mr. Yohrling's leadership, the Motion Control segment of Curtiss-Wright achieved a highly successful growth strategy which increased revenues to $389 million in 2004 from $125 million in 1999.
"George has transformed our Motion Control segment into a premier global supplier of electronics and engineering systems, while significantly growing revenues and profits for Curtiss-Wright," said Martin R. Benante, Chairman and CEO of Curtiss-Wright. "Under George's leadership, sales have grown at a compounded annual growth rate of 26% over the past five years, while the number of business units has increased from 3 to 15 and sales per employee increased from $158K to $194K. This segment, which had been almost entirely dependent on the commercial aerospace market, now serves a balance of diversified and complementary markets in commercial aerospace, military aerospace, ground defense and general industrial. In addition, our product breadth has developed from primarily mechanical actuation to electromechanical and electronic products, and our technical expertise has expanded from specific components to fully integrated subsystems. We will continue to reap the benefits of George's vision and leadership for many years to come."
A 29-year veteran of Curtiss-Wright, Mr. Yohrling started his career with the company as a manufacturing manager in Fairfield, N.J. After serving in a variety of management positions in New Jersey, he was named general manager of the Curtiss-Wright Controls' facility in Shelby, N.C., in 1985.
Mr. Benante announced that David Adams will succeed Mr. Yohrling as President of the Motion Control segment. "David is a strong leader with a wealth of experience in operations management, business development and engineering," said Mr. Benante. "He has provided significant leadership to our global operations, including a management assignment in the U.K and a key role in the acquisition strategy of the Motion Control segment. I'm confident David will continue our successful growth and focus on long-term profitability."
"Curtiss-Wright is world-renowned for engineering and electronics innovation in motion control, flow control and metal treatment services," said Mr. Benante. "We also have great people, a growing customer base and a solid financial foundation, so we're in excellent position to continuing to return great value to our customers, shareholders and the communities we serve."
