Company to Provide Recovery Assist Secure and Traverse (RAST) System
ROSELAND, N.J., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW), through its Motion Control segment, has received an order from the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) -- Lakehurst, New Jersey, exercising their fiscal year 2005 option for one additional RAST aircraft handling system for the DDG-51 Flight IIA program.
RAST is a helicopter handling system which fully integrates all of the functions required to safely operate and stow large ship-borne helicopters. In addition to enabling safe launch and recovery, RAST facilitates the securing, maneuvering and hangaring of helicopters, day or night, specifically in adverse weather and sea conditions up to sea state 5.

In 2001, Indal Technologies, Inc. was awarded a six year contract from the U.S. Navy with options for up to 18 RAST systems. Curtiss-Wright acquired Indal Technologies in March 2005 which operates within the Motion Control segment's Engineered Systems group. To date, 11 RAST systems have been ordered under the original contract. Work for this contract will be performed at the Curtiss-Wright's facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
The systems being delivered for these ships will incorporate the latest in advanced electronic controls technology. More than 200 shipsets of RAST and RAST-type systems have been delivered to navies around the world, including those of Australia, Canada, Chile, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey and the United States.
