Acquisition Further Enhances Curtiss-Wright's Position in the Embedded Systems Market

ROSELAND, N.J., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW; CW.B) today announced the acquisition of Systran Corporation of Dayton, Ohio, for approximately $18 million. Systran will operate as a business unit of Curtiss-Wright Controls Inc., a subsidiary of Curtiss-Wright Corporation.

Systran is a leading supplier of highly-specialized, high-performance data communications products for real-time systems, primarily for the aerospace and defense, industrial automation and medical imaging markets. Key applications include simulation, process control, advanced digital signal processing, data acquisition, image processing, and test and measurement. Systran reported sales of approximately $15 million for the year ended September 30, 2003.

In recent years, Systran has secured key aerospace and defense contracts, providing sophisticated data communications products for radar applications such as Raytheon's Upgraded Early Warning Radar (UEWR) and the SPY-3 Multifunction Radar system for the next generation DD(X) Destroyer. Other significant projects include the Boeing 767 Tanker, MK 45 Gun Control System and the instrumentation, data fusion, and data acquisition systems for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) simulator. Systran has a diversified customer base of over 600 customers, including the US Armed Forces, BAE Systems, Boeing, General Dynamics, L-3 Communications, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and many other leading defense companies.
