CURTISS-WRIGHT WINS CONTRACT FOR MOBILE GUN SYSTEM PROGRAM

March 04, 2003

Mobile Gun Systems is Part of the Interim Armored Vehicle Program For the U.S. Army's New Light Brigades

LYNDHURST, N.J., Mar 4, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW; CW.B), through VISTA Controls, a division of its Controls business segment, has been awarded three development contracts totaling over $2 million. The contracts cover the design and development of initial production units of the 105mm cannon Autoloader Controller, Replenisher Controller and Turret System Electronic Unit for the advanced Mobile Gun System (MGS). The contract was from General Dynamics Land Systems, Sterling Heights, Mich.

Combined, the three systems from VISTA Controls will provide fully automated loading and ammunition replenishing of the 105mm cannon to achieve sustained high fire rates needed in tomorrow's battlefield. The Autoloader Controller works in concert with the Turret System Electronic Unit to control loading and unloading of the MGS main gun. The autoloader also works with the Replenisher Controller to transfer the main gun munitions to the ammunition carousel.

The systems are for Stryker combat vehicles, which are eight-wheeled, lightly armored vehicles and are a centerpiece of the U.S. Army's effort to become a more agile and deployable force. The Stryker Mobile Gun System is one variant of the Stryker that consists of a 105mm cannon mounted in a low-profile turret.

"We are pleased to be assisting the U.S. military with their efforts and desires to become a faster, lighter and more mobile force. Vista Controls understands the needs of our military, and are eager to develop and deliver high quality systems to our armed forces," said Martin Benante, Chairman and CEO of Curtiss-Wright.

The program plans to equip more than 200 Stryker Mobile Gun Systems over a five-year period.
