CEO Will Represent Visionary Corporation With Links to Three of Aviation's Most Renowned Pioneers

ROSELAND, N.J., Jun 17, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Curtiss-Wright Corp. (NYSE: CW, CW.B) announced today its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Martin Benante, will accept a prestigious award on behalf of company founder and aviation pioneer, Glenn Hammond Curtiss. The award, to be given at a gala banquet on June 18th at the historic Parisian Salle Wagram, is slated to coincide with the annual Paris Air Show, the world's largest, which dates back to 1909.

As part of the ongoing centennial anniversary of manned, powered, controlled and sustained flight, the ceremony will honor the "Top 100" most important, interesting and influential figures in the global aerospace community, past and present.

Sponsored by Aviation Week and Space Technology, winners of this special award were selected from a pool of more than 750 nominees determined by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronauts (AIAA) and the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS). Voting was open to more than one million aerospace professionals in 180 countries via electronic balloting.

Curtiss-Wright's pedigree stretches from the historic Wright Flyer to the unmanned Global Hawk, which led the way in battlefield reconnaissance during the recent Iraq war. It is the only company that can boast a direct link to three of aviation's most recognized pioneers. Each of the company's founders has been elected to the National Inventor's Hall of Fame and is internationally recognized throughout the industry for their leading roles in ushering in the aviation era and changing the world of transportation forever.

In 1916, The Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company went public and became the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, employing more than 18,000 people. During World War I, the company produced 10,000 aircraft at an incredible rate of more than 100 per week. Wright Aeronautical was incorporated in 1919 with a focus on the design and manufacture of aero engines. Wright's innovation led to the first mass produced air-cooled aero engine and was featured on Charles Lindbergh's historic Spirit of St. Louis flight. On July 5th, 1929, the companies originally formed by the Wright Brothers and Glenn Curtiss merged to form Curtiss-Wright Corporation. On August 5th, 1929 the company became listed on the NYSE where it still trades today.

Curtiss, who is renowned in aviation circles for such innovations as the hydroplane, began experimenting in 1908 with the concept of a plane that could take off and land on water. After years of development, Curtiss successfully created the world's first practical seaplane, which gave birth to a new mission for the U.S. Navy.

Over the years, Curtiss-Wright has expanded and become an industry leader for flow and motion control devices, as well as metal treatment services. The company continues to be at the forefront of technology as evidenced by its current work with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory on the laser peening process that has the potential to revolutionize the industry.

"Rarely does a company have a chance to celebrate a real and meaningful link to one of the most significant moments in world history," said Benante. "Everyone at Curtiss-Wright is extremely proud that our three founders are being recognized internationally for their contributions to aerospace, and that our company is playing such a significant role in the Centennial of Flight celebration and the Paris Air Show. I am truly honored to accept this award on behalf of Glenn Hammond Curtiss."
